Jim Baker is currently the owner founder of Sumus Development Group, LLC, an investment and advisory firm focusing on healthcare and technology and is a partner in Optimal Bio, an NC based wellness practice and is the owner of 50Cups an online retail tea company.

In the past, Jim started, owned and eventually sold Ockham Development Group, a contract research organization that focused on oncology clinical trials for pharmaceutical and biotech. Since his exit in 2014, Jim served as the board Chair of Durham Nativity School.

In addition, he’s served on the Diocese of Raleigh’s Finance Committee, Catholic Charities as a member and board chair and the Finance Council at Michael’s The Archangel in Cary. He co-chaired Nourishing Our Neighbors campaign for Catholic Charities, was on leadership committees for campaigns at St. Michael’s and Cardinal Gibbons HS. 

In addition to the above, Jim is a husband and father of 4, and grandfather of 3, where he has spent the last 30 years in the business world as an entrepreneur, investor, and advisor. He is also an author of “The Adventure Begins When The Plan Falls Apart” Converting a Crisis into Company Success.
