Rooted in a Rich Tradition of Jesuit Education

Cristo Rey Research Triangle High School is proud to be part of a 500-year-old tradition of Jesuit education. Founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola in the 16th century, the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) has become known around the world for its commitment to academic excellence, social justice, and the holistic development of each student.

Jesuit schools have long believed that education should go beyond the classroom—shaping minds, hearts, and spirits. This tradition gave birth to the phrase cura personalis, or “care for the whole person”—a guiding principle we live by at Cristo Rey RT.

Inspired by the life of Jesus, we strive to create a welcoming, inclusive community where all students – regardless of faith – are invited to explore, grow, and discover their purpose. At Cristo Rey RT, we believe in learning through relationships, reflection, and action—both in the classroom and beyond.

The Jesuit Spirit in the Cristo Rey Network

In 1996, the Jesuits helped launch the first Cristo Rey school in Chicago as a bold response to the need for high-quality, college-preparatory education in underserved communities. Since then, the Cristo Rey Network has grown to over 30 schools across the country, each committed to providing a Jesuit-inspired education that combines rigorous academics with meaningful work experience.

Our model is unique—students work one day a week in professional settings, earning part of their tuition while building the confidence, skills, and habits for lifelong success.

Jesuit Values in Action at Cristo Rey RT

At Cristo Rey Research Triangle, our staff and faculty don’t just teach Jesuit values—they embody them.

  • We strive for excellence (Magis), always seeking to go beyond what is required.

  • We nurture students with compassion, integrity, and reflection, encouraging them to grow in faith, service, and purpose.

  • We challenge our students to become “men and women for and with others,” committed to justice and love for all people.

  • We create a community of belonging, grounded in faith and intellectual curiosity, where every student is known, valued, and inspired to thrive.

The following are characteristics of a Jesuit education:

Magis: Literally translated “the more.” This is the challenge to strive for excellence.

Women & Men for and with Others: Sharing gifts, pursuing justice, and having concern for the poor and marginalized.

Cura Personalis: “Care for the individual person.” Respecting each person as a child of God and all of God’s creations.

Unity of Heart, Mind, & Soul: Developing the whole person. Integrating all aspects of our lives.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam (AMDG): “For the Greater Glory of God.”

Forming & Educating Agents of Change: Teaching behaviors that reflect critical thought and responsible action on moral and ethical issues.
